Egg Donation - How It Works
Blood hormone levels and ultrasound are both used to monitor the cycle, in order to select the best time for egg collection. It is best practice to perform several ultrasounds, not just one.
While the donor undergoes hormonal treatment in order to develop the eggs, the receiver follows hormonal treatment to make her uterus ready to receive embryos.
Both processes are performed in a synchronised way, to make sure that the uterus will be ready at the right time when the eggs are mature.
One or two embryos are transferred into the recipient and other good quality embryos are frozen.
