In the Fall of 2001, Sarasota businessman Rod Khleif and his brother Ed Jacobs began to reflect on their many life's blessings. With the holiday season quickly approaching and their needs met, they decided that rather than watch football games on Thanksgiving Day, they would find a way to make a contribution of their abundance to families less fortunate. This inspired them to personally assemble and distribute food baskets to those in need, with the hope that other families could also experience abundance, love and celebration on that Thanksgiving Day. Thus, the idea for the Basket Brigade and Tiny Hands Foundation was founded.
"We've been at this for 11 years now, and 2012 is proving to be our most challenging year ever", says Rod Khleif, Tiny Hand's Executive Director. "With a difficult economy, and more and more families in need, 2012's Annual Basket Brigade is going to require more food, more money, and more staffing than ever before", says Khleif, a local Sarasota Real Estate executive. "I want to remind others who lives are full, that there are many who go without each day. Even the littlest gesture can often make a huge impact on the lives of those less fortunate". Khleif adds, "Our goal is 1,600 baskets. I am hoping that community leaders, and local businesses will step up and generate donations of both food and/or money so that we can help make sure that the needs of the community are met. The need is that great".
The Tiny Hand's Foundation's core mission and initiatives have been developed toward s improving the quality of children's lives, both locally and globally. With the assistance of donors and volunteer's, The Tiny Hand's Foundation is developing empowerment programs for children that highlight health, finance, personal development and emotional mastery as methods for breaking through cycles of poverty. Rod Khleif and the Annual Basket Brigade has delivered over 10,000 baskets throughout the Sarasota area since starting in 2001.
