With 14 video game companies in the town, Leamington Spa is often referred to as Silicon Spa. Now the many millions of players of games developed in the town can view the gorgeous Regency architecture, in real time, thanks to a new webcam installed by smartphone app developer Kwalee.
This has been especially well timed as the route of the Olympic torch runs right through the camera view on Sunday 1st July between 16:59 and 17:20.
The Kwalee offices are right in the very heart of Leamington, at the bottom of the Parade, overlooking the parks that run alongside the River Leam. The webcam looks out of the office window and takes in the famous Jephson Gardens and the Royal Pump Rooms and Baths, which was recently visited by the Duke of Gloucester.
The bridge over the River Leam is also in view, which the torch will venture over after passing the grand All Saints Church on the far side, seen here: http://flic.kr/p/cgp1Bq.
The picture on the website updates every 30 seconds to allow viewers to follow activity throughout the day and night, as well watching the seasons change. Of special interest are the carefully tended flowerbeds that bring colour to the centre of Leamington all year round.
With the installment of the new webcam comes a new game from Kwalee, to be released soon. A subtle teaser from Kwalee, about an upcoming game, sits on one of the windowpane ledges.
Kwalee CEO and Codemasters' co-founder David Darling is pleased that the webcam gives games enthusiasts from all around the world an opportunity to see the town:
"Leamington Spa has a major cluster of gaming companies. We want to introduce our website visitors to the view that we have out of our window, thus giving viewers a bit of the experience of being in that cluster and of being at Kwalee."
He adds: "Having the Olympic torch pass us by is an excellent bonus."
A link to the webcam image can be found in the 'Media' section of the Kwalee website home page: www.kwalee.com/webcam where the view of Leamington Spa is streamed live.
