Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith Endorses Lauren P. Raysor’s Book, "Living The Wealthy Life"

Attorney Who Served Under Eliot Spitzer, Represented Remy Ma Shooting Victim to Appear as Guest Speaker at Upcoming Art Exhibit about Her New Book
New York, NY, United States of America (sardnews.org) 16/08/2011
Attorney Lauren P. Raysor, Esq ( http://www.laurenraysor.com ). has announced that Wayne Smith, Mayor of Irvington, New Jersey, has endorsed Ms. Raysor’s book, “Living the Wealthy Life ( http://livingthewealthylife.com ),” and emphasized that this book provides the guidance people need to take control of their lives and their own destinies.

Ms. Raysor met Mayor Smith at a recent financial planning seminar in Harlem, in which she took part in a panel discussion. Mayor Smith was interested in what she had to say and purchased a copy of her book. After the panel discussion, Mayor Smith invited Ms. Raysor to speak at the town’s featured art exhibit, which will take place August 15 from 5-8 p.m. at The Servicemen’s Clubhouse, 1113 Springfield Avenue, Irvington, New Jersey.

The exhibit is part of the Mayor’s Cultural Series, featuring artwork from T. Indigo Hill and readings from local author Craig Garner, Chairman, Irvington Planning Board, and Keith Middleton, an Irvington resident and the township’s former Poet Laureate. Admission is free.

In her book, Ms. Raysor says that every person has the ability to transform their current situation into something truly magnificent, regardless of their social or economic background. The transformation starts from within as people learn to take responsibility for their own actions rather than blame others. As an example, Ms. Raysor describes how she rose from poverty to become Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York under then-Governor Eliot Spitzer, Deputy Chief and later Senior Trial Counsel for New York City and before starting her own practice.

“Living The Wealthy Life” is an up-close and personal examination of what it takes to make your life great. Ms. Raysor lists and explains the “18 Principles of Wealthy Living” and reveals what those decisions are, what you need to know when you’re making them and how to capitalize on each success to propel yourself closer to greatness.

Ms. Raysor also offers advice for keeping yourself on the right path in your personal decisions. Ms. Raysor said she felt compelled to write the book after the Remy Ma trial ( http://www.laurenraysor.com/news-071707-makeda-barnes-joseph.html ), in which Ms. Raysor represented the shooting victim.

On July 14, 2007, Remy Smith, also known as Remy Ma, shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in the abdomen outside a nightclub. A grand jury indicted Ms. Ma with several counts, including first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. In March 2008, a New York County jury found her guilty. Ms. Raysor, who represented Ms. Barnes-Joseph during the trial, implored record companies to impose a morality clause on rap and hip-hop artists who sign onto their labels so that, in the event the artist is involved in any criminal behavior, they would be dismissed from their label.

Although this was a high-profile case in which Ms. Ma’s actions showed the violent nature in the world of rap and hip-hop, Ms. Raysor emphasized that not all artists engage in this behavior and that even some of them give back to the community and encourage children to stay away from the criminal lifestyle that some of the artists glorify in their songs and their actions.

“I would like to thank Mayor Smith for his endorsement of my book,” Ms. Raysor said. “It is refreshing to see an elected official provide support for a book that provides guidance for those who wish to make their lives better, but also for the younger generation who may not have the role models in their lives to give them the proper guidance they need in today’s world.”
