A local plumbing/HVAC company introduced a charitable program to their customers, prospects, and members of the communities of Pittsburgh last December. The program is called Sullivan Shares, named after the participating company, Sullivan Super Service. Tomorrow, Make-A-Wish Foundation will receive $500 in a check presentation at 9:30am at their location on the 37th floor of the Gulf Building in downtown Pittsburgh.

The program began a year ago with the donation of much-needed plumbing/HVAC work for one woman living in the Braddock area. This was a nomination from one of the company's employees who was aware that many people from Pittsburgh's surrounding neighborhoods were living in less than pleasant conditions.

In the months to follow, members of the community nominated local, small organizations in need of contributions through the company's website, newsletters, or by calling in to the office. At the end of each month, a $500 check was presented to the winning organization to use as they found most suitable.

The winning organizations included: Good Shepherd School in Braddock; Wilmerding YMCA; Braddock Carnegie Library Association; American Lung Association; Woodland Hills Foundation; Forest Hills Senior Citizens Center; Debra House; Pittsburgh Dream Center; and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum.

"We have always contributed to the community through several different avenues, one of which is our annual food drive, so we thought - why not contribute on a consistent basis, instead of during certain months of the year," John Sullivan, owner of Sullivan Service, said.

Mr. Sullivan also recognized there are organizations in the region that are unknown and don't receive contributions because of their small size. The Sullivan Shares program allows members of that organization to nominate themselves for the donation.
