KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection 10 mg/mL, the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that physically destroys fat under the chin for an improved profile,1 is now available in Kansas City. Submental fullness, also known as "double chin," is a common concern among facial aesthetic oriented patients2 and can impact both men and women. Some possible causes are genetics, weight gain and aging.3, 4
Sometimes, even with diet or exercise, unwanted fullness beneath the chin may not go away, and it can make a person appear older or heavier than they actually are.5 According to a 2015 survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), more than two thirds of aesthetic-oriented consumers are bothered by submental fullness - nearly as many as those bothered by lines and wrinkles around the eyes.2
KYBELLA® is given during a series of in-office visits. The injection process may take 15 to 20 minutes. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.1, 6 Fat cleared from the treatment area is processed through the body's natural metabolic pathways.7
Treatment with KYBELLA® is tailored by the doctors to the individual patient's submental fat distribution and aesthetic goals for an improved chin profile.1
Kybella can cause serious side effects, including nerve injury in the jaw (which can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness), and trouble swallowing. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area.1 In clinical trials, the incidence and severity of most side effects decreased with subsequent KYBELLA® treatments.8
As part of a clinical development program, KYBELLA® has been evaluated in more than 20 clinical studies. More than 1,600 people around the world have been treated with KYBELLA®.8
