Highlands Condos in Gatlinburg reveals the top 3 secrets to the 2014 Smoky Mountains fall foliage, including what causes the colors to change and when the colors will peak.
Fall in the Smokies is one of the most popular times of year for the area. In fact, from September through November, the National Park Service has reported an average of more than 2 million visitors per year. These visitors come from all across the world to see the Smoky Mountains fall foliage. However, with this popularity also come several questions that visitors ask every year.
Determined to help guests enjoy the best possible view of the Smoky Mountains fall foliage, Highlands Condos in Gatlinburg recently revealed three secrets about the autumn leaves that visitors may not have already known.
“Fall in the Smoky Mountains is, hands down, one of the prettiest times of year,” said a spokesperson for Highlands Condos in Gatlinburg. “This is when the leaves change colors, the weather cools off, the days become shorter and the holidays are just around the corner.”
The first question tackled by the Gatlinburg condo company was, ‘when is the best time to visit to see the Smoky Mountains fall foliage?’
According to the Gatlinburg condo company, the peak season for this year’s Smoky Mountains fall foliage will be late October through early November. This is when both the leaves in the upper and lower elevations will take on their true fall colors and glow when the sun hits them.
Highlands Condos in Gatlinburg also answers the popular question of why the leaves change colors. In their blog post, the Gatlinburg condo company explains that it is the cooler weather and shorter days that bring guests their beloved Smoky Mountains fall foliage.
“The fall weather, which is much cooler than the summer temperatures, obviously plays a factor into the changing of the colors,” said a spokesperson for Highlands Condos in Gatlinburg. “The cooler temperatures draw out the green pigments, which exposes the reds, yellows and oranges.”
Finally, Highlands Condos revealed where in the Smokies visitors can get the best view of the brilliant Smoky Mountains fall foliage. Topping the list for the Gatlinburg condo company was their very own private balconies that come standard with each of their rentals. From here, guests have an unobstructed panoramic view of the mountains in the distance.
Outside of their resort, Highlands Condos directs guests to the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway, the Gatlinburg Sky Lift and the Gatlinburg Space Needle for the best views of the fall leaves. Highlands Condos is located at 855 Campbell Lead in Gatlinburg, TN.
