Business Process Management tools generally offer as an additional mechanism the possibility to perform 'simulations', i.e., to execute the processes virtually in imaginary scenarios in order to understand and quantify any circumstances that affect their execution. These simulations should reveal bottlenecks, overloads, unequal distribution of workloads, excessive times, etc.
There are two non-exclusive ways to conduct simulations:
- Statistical Simulation, this is the most common but also the less reliable.
- Real Simulation, much more reliable. The BPM tool allows instant modifications to be made to the design of the processes and these modifications can be executed immediately, with no need for programming, both in real and imaginary environments.
