The Mookambika Devi Temple stands at the Kodachadri summit. The deity is in the type of Jyotir Linga including both Shiva and Shakthi. The Panchaloha picture (five element amalgamated metal) of the Goddess on Shree Chakra is said to have been consecrated by Adi Shankaracharya during his visit to this location. It is believed that the first place of the goddess is on top of Kodachadri Peak (3880') and as it was really difficult for average individuals to trek all of the strategy to Kodachadri, Shankaracharya re-established the temple at Kollur. There is an ideal sculpture of Panchamukha Ganesha here.
This early temple can be found in the Sowparnika and also the Kodajadri hills, a perennial river flow very near the temple. This idol was installed by Adi shankaracharya and when Goddess appeared before him he sang the well-known Soundarya Lahari in praise of the goddess which folks chant even today and get the blessings of the Mother Goddess.
