Over time, many people will experience the noticeable signs of aging, including wrinkles, and frown lines. When store-bought wrinkle or anti-aging creams no longer work, it may be time to consider an injectable dermal filler to rejuvenate skin, and restore a more youthful appearance. FDA-approved Xeomin® (sometimes known as "the X-Factor") is one treatment which can help restore a patient's appearance.
Dr. Steven Victor, of Victor Dermatology and Rejuvenation, says that Xeomin® is quite effective for temporarily improving the appearance of visible facial lines, folds, and wrinkles on the forehead, under the eyes, and on the neck. He explains that Xeomin®, which is still fairly new in the United States, contains botulinum toxin A, which is the same active ingredient found in BOTOX® Cosmetic.
According to Dr. Victor, Xeomin® essentially performs many of the same functions as BOTOX®. It is injected into a targeted area of muscle, and helps smooth out wrinkles, and frown lines. It also reduces activities in the facial muscles which contribute to the appearance of facial wrinkles. However, Dr. Victor adds, that Xeomin® is a "purer" form of BOTOX®, since it contains none of the additives found in BOTOX®. Xeomin® is also extremely helpful in alleviating severe neck pains.
Dr. Victor says that Xeomin® should only be injected by a trained doctor familiar with the product. He adds that injections can be done in more than one area at a time. The injection will take only a few minutes, although it may take up to a week for the results to become noticeable. Like with similar treatments, the effects of a Xeomin® injection are temporary, lasting about 3 to 6 months. Dr. Victor strongly advises warns patients against receiving injections of Xeomin® from more than one medical professional at a time. Some possible side-effects associated with Xeomin® include redness, swelling, or itching, though these side-effects are temporary, Dr. Victor adds.
Dr. Victor says that, while Xeomin® is a safe, non-invasive way of treating wrinkles and frown lines, the treatment is not for everyone. Patients who have severe allergies, or who have previously had an allergic reaction to Dysport® or BOTOX®, should not be injected with Xeomin®. Those with serious health issues, such as heart disease, are also not considered good candidates for the treatment.
Dr. Victor works closely with each of his patients, ensuring that they receive the best care possible, both before and after treatment. About Dr. Victor
Dermatologist Dr. Steven Victor is dedicated to the pursuit of pioneering, perfecting and delivering the most effective anti-aging treatments in existence today.
Over the past 30 years his reputation has brought in numerous worldwide celebrities, TV personalities and models who have sought out his rejuvenating treatments.
Upon graduation from New York Medical College, Dr. Victor established his New York City practice, Victor Dermatology and Rejuvenation. Through the practice, Dr. Victor developed a reputation for creating safe, modern and minimally invasive treatments and pioneered both the "lunchtime peel" and mesotherapy. He continues to offer innovative cosmetic and rejuvenation treatments from injectables, lasers and peels to LaserSculpt -a laser assisted type of Liposuction which melts fat via a tiny laser that goes under the skin and also provides tightening and toning, unlike traditional liposuction. Most recently and most notably, Dr. Victor has developed a state-of-the-art laboratory and a patented, proprietary technology for the efficient and reproducible separation of stromal vascular fraction cells (branded IntelliCell™) containing Mesenchymal Stem Cells. The stromal vascular fraction is then used autologously, (donor and recipient are the same) by a physician to restore function by enabling the body to repair, replace, and regenerate damaged, aging or diseased cells, tissue and organs. Dr. Victor offers his patients this therapy to attenuate a multitude of the skin's signs of aging including firming and volume filling.
He has held teaching appointments at New York University, New York Medical College, Beth Israel Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital and was the consulting dermatologist to Elizabeth Arden and Clarins. While earning his bachelor's degree, he assisted the Orentreich Foundation for the Advancement of Science, working on Buf-Puf, Clinique and Head & Shoulders.
He is also the co-author of Ageless Beauty, A Dermatologist's Secrets to Looking Younger without Surgery, published in 2003.
