Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, announces immediate availability of capacitive sensor technology from NXP, for smart touch on display solutions.
For passive LCD displays in industrial and home automation, capacitive touch sensing with a fixed number of touch keys provides the most suitable solution both from the cost and functionality point of view.
The basic concept is to replace mechanical buttons with capacitive touch buttons on the display itself. Doing this, a sealed user interface will be obtained which eliminates many problems such as mechanical wear, corrosive fluids leaking into the device, etc.
The combination of the unique NXP touch technology with an LCD driver has shown to overcome several obstacles faced when making touch displays. This integration compensates for the interference between the LCD signal and the capacitive sensor measurement. Another well-known issue with wet fingers or water related problems in general is also taken care of by the continuous auto-calibration and the unique ultra fast recovery feature.
NXP touch technology supports three different touch on display architectures: add-on touch, where the touch layer is added on top of the conventional display; on-cell touch, where the touch layer is positioned between the LCD glass and the polarizer; and in-cell touch, where the touch layer is combined with the LCD electrodes into one single layer.
NXP offers a large variety of LCD drivers and capacitive touch sensors for touch on display. A unique feature of NXP's capacitive touch sensors is the patented auto-calibration mechanism, which enables touch on display solutions without interference between LCD and touch, while additionally offering an extremely high immunity against environmental changes such as temperature and humidity.
