Showing signs of aging is usually thought of as something only women worry about. However, women are no longer alone in their quest for cosmetic perfection, as a rising number of men are looking to put their best face forward.
New York-based plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Guida explains that men actually have many of the same cosmetic concerns as women, from aging-related issues like including wrinkles, to insecurities about the size of their nose. Over the years, Dr. Guida has seen a dramatic increase over the years in the number of male patients who are interested in investing in cosmetic treatment and plastic surgery procedures.
According to Dr Guida, the most commonly-requested procedures among men include rhinoplasty, and blepharoplasty. Cosmetic surgery is sought by men of all ages, though many older men seek blepharoplasty to combat the look of aging around the eyes. Dr. Guida adds that men will usually seek cosmetic surgery over nonsurgical treatments, since surgery will produce permanent results.
Rhinoplasty is an extremely popular procedure among Dr. Guida's patients. This surgery cosmetically improves the appearance of the nose, correcting issues such as size, shape, or asymmetry, or issues caused by trauma to the nose. Dr. Guida performs this procedure under general anesthesia. Blepharoplasty corrects the appearance of loose skin that hangs from the upper eyelids over the eyelashes, which makes patients look puffy and aged. Dr. Guida performs this procedure by removing excess fat from the eyelids, to correct the looseness of the skin surrounding the eyelids and the "puffy" look caused by loose skin. Some side-effects associated with these procedures may include bruising, or discoloration. Both procedures will also require about a week of recovery.
Dr. Guida says men who are in good health, without histories of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, lung disease, or obesity, are generally good candidates for cosmetic procedures. Like with any plastic surgery, Dr. Guida encourages all his patients to have realistic expectations about what this plastic surgery can do for them.
Dr. Guida encourages anyone interested in blepharoplasty or rhinoplasty, or any other plastic surgery procedure for men, to contact his offices at 212-871-0900 or www.drguida.com.
