New technology allows facial rejuvenation via fat grafting and cell renewal with amazing results. Dr. Steven Victor, New York based dermatologist, takes on the traditional face lift with a brand new two-part cellular therapy treatment with results that rival those of a the face lift.
How It Works
Dr. Victor harvests 2 ounces or 60cc of the patient's own fat (often from abdomen or thighs) and then sends it to the center's on-site processing lab where SVF (stromal vascular fraction) cells are extracted from the fat. The SVF contains autologous (coming from one's own body) stem cells and growth factors.
"I use that [mixture] to regenerate the face, neck, chest and hands. By taking fresh fat and injecting it we can add volume back to the face, between eyebrows, to the jaw line and cheeks, as well as to the chest." explains Dr. Victor.
The doctor can also inject that same cellular product into the dermis to rejuvenate the skin. The cells when coupled with the harvested fat the SVF cells will increase angiogenesis—the process which new blood vessels form from pre-existing vessels. This process can help renew the skin and diminish scars or wrinkles.
The job of these cells in the body is already to repair damage, according to the doctor. Aging is indeed considered damage. The cells, when injected, automatically know what to do, they go to the site of the damage.
The cellular therapy rejuvenation shows results that are up to 80 percent as viable as a traditional facelift, according to Dr. Victor. With a recovery time of only 2-3 days, the procedure lasts for 5-10 years, considerably longer than any other injectable treatments. The doctor notes that in some cases certain patients may experience up to 5-7 days of bruising—sometimes, not always.
Dr. Victor explains that the biggest difference between SVF cellular therapy and a facelift is that the cellular therapy gives back plumpness and helps rejuvenate the skin itself, as opposed to a facelift pulling the face taut.
"I believe it's a much more natural look, for both men and women. You don't end up with that surgically pulled look," says Dr. Victor.
The doctor likens aging skin to a balloon. Once it loses air the balloon that was once taut and firm sags and wrinkles. The balloon loses it radiance and youth but when filled back up with air, it regains its plumpness and smoothness.
"When you lose fat and bone the skin becomes loose and wrinkly. Inject fat and SVF cells very artistically in the face and it can take years off." Over the course of 90 days the skin continues to get smoother, firmer and tighter.
Another advantage the SVF cellular therapy treatment has over a traditional facelift is that the product can be injected in the lips, chin, neck, chest and hands. Making it a total body treatment.
"While fat already has stem cells in it, separating the cells unlocks their power and gives much better clinical results", says Dr. Victor of the one-of-a-kind process that he has created.
