The Harmony™ Prenatal Test is an advanced blood test to detect common fetal trisomies: Trisomy 21 (T21), Trisomy 18 (T18), Trisomy 13 (T13). It is a non-invasive maternal blood test which can confirm if your baby is chromosomally normal. It can be used by women with singleton pregnancies of 10 gestational weeks or more to assess the risk of fetal trisomies. It can also be used for IVF and non-self singleton pregnancies.
Accuracy Rate
The accuracy rate of verifying whether a woman is carrying a chromosomally normal baby is 99% according to research for the most commony trisomy, which is Trisomy 21 (T21) - down syndrome.
How Does It Work?
Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) are tested to give the most accurate results. Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) are the result of the natural breakdown of fetal cells in the mother's blood, which are thought to be predominantly placental, and these clear from the system within hours after giving birth. From 10 gestational weeks on, these can be tested for common chromosome conditions, which are called trisomies (trisomy - singular).
The test is non-invasive and therefore does not pose a risk of miscarriage for the pregnancy. At Merrion Fetal Health, the test includes a consultation, the blood test and an ultrasound scan.
A Guide About What The Harmony™ Prenatal Test Can Test For
The test can identify the following:
Trisomy 21 - Down Syndrome - 99% accuracy
Trisomy 18 - Edwards Syndrome - 98% accuracy
Trisomy 13 - Patau Syndrome - 80% accuracy
Who Can Use The Harmony™ Prenatal Test?
Any woman with a singleton pregnancy of 10 gestational weeks until term can avail of the Harmony™ Prenatal Test. It can also be used by women with IVF and non-self singleton pregnancies. It is not yet available for use in pregnancies with multiples - twins, triplets etc.
