According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is now the number-one cosmetic surgery in the United States. Working to help patients achieve the best results possible, Long Island Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Charlotte Rhee, outlines several tips for choosing the best breast surgeon possible.
"Breast augmentation surgery is the go-to solution for women struggling with a small or disproportionate bustline," explains Dr. Rhee. "As the number-one cosmetic surgery today, it's important that women know what to look out for when choosing a breast surgeon." Breast augmentation surgery uses silicone or saline implants to achieve fuller, firmer or better-proportioned breasts.
"And, when it comes to choosing a provider, I recommend patients consult with a board certified plastic surgeon," explains Dr. Rhee. "We are doctors who have demonstrated knowledge and experience above and beyond regular medical school." While many providers advertise themselves as "cosmetic surgeons," only those officially recognized by the American Board of Plastic Surgery can call themselves board certified plastic surgeons.
Dr. Rhee also took a moment to explain the importance of meeting in person with your plastic surgeon prior to your procedure. "A breast augmentation consultation is an opportunity to assess your surgeon's skill level, experience and professionalism," explains Dr. Rhee. "Make sure you ask to see breast augmentation before and after photos. While these aren't a guarantee of what your results will be, they can give you a good idea of the type of work your surgeon is capable of."
Dispelling the myth that "All breast surgeons are created equal," Dr. Rhee concluded with this: "There are few procedures that require the same skill level and finesse as breast augmentation surgery. Make sure your provider is well-qualified, setting realistic goals and most importantly, committed to your success."
